SUMMARY:May 2022 Meeting - Legionella and Methods of Control - Past Presidents Night
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Phil Roach \nLegionella is a naturally grown bacteria that occurs in warm freshwater with the common sources being in cooling towers and potable water systems. The number of cases in the US of Legionnaires disease continues to rise year after year with about 10\,000 cases of Legionnaires disease being reported to the CDC in 2018. Most recently\, Portland experienced an outbreak where 5 people were hospitalized including 1 who died in 2021. \nIn this presentation\, we’ll cover legionella itself\, other water borne pathogens\, and how a person could contract legionella. In addition\, relevant standards involved with legionella control along with some of the methods being used to control it will be shared. \n  \nRegistration opens at 5:15pm \nHappy Hour Networking 5:15 – 6:30pm \nAnnouncements and Dinner at 6:30pm \nPresentation starts at 7:00pm \n  \nRegister Here: https://events.r20.constantcontact.com/register/eventReg?oeidk=a07ej6ki2fw0c9b09d8&oseq=&c=&ch=

SUMMARY:March Virtual Chapter Meeting - BAS & Cybersecurity
DESCRIPTION:View Recording \nDownload Slides \nPresented by Brian Meyers \nAccording to IBM\, the global average cost of a data breach is $3.9 million and data from Juniper suggests cybercrime cost businesses over $2 trillion total in 2019. So\, what does Cyber Security have to do with a Building Automation Systems? Building Automation Systems provide significant value in connecting and automating a building and its components; however\, anywhere you or your customers are connected can provide risk. There are simple and proactive measures you can take to improve your job or building’s cyber security. \nKey Learnings:\n• Understanding IT requirements that need to be proactively built into BAS specifications.\n• Specifying the right products with cyber security considerations.\n• Best practices for BAS installation that can improve cyber security.\n• Ongoing maintenance required to mitigate cyber security risk.

SUMMARY:ASHRAE Society President Lecture - The Advanced Energy Design Guide for Hospitals
DESCRIPTION:Presented by ASHRAE Society President Mick Schwedler \nDownload Slides \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nThe Advanced Energy Design Guide for Hospitals – Reducing Energy Consumption by 50%\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSince 2002\, ASHRAE\, the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES)\, USGBC\, and AIA\, with support from the Department of Energy\, have collaborated on a series of Advanced Energy Design Guides (AEDGs) that result in significant energy savings in the built environment beyond what is expected by using only ASHRAE Standard 90.1. The AEDG series of documents is now one of the most popular publications in ASHRAE’s history with over 600\,000 copies in circulation. \nThis program provides a brief history of the AEDG Series\, and then focuses on the 50% Large Hospital AEDG which will be covered in detail including examples of recommendations\, case studies\, technologies\, systems\, and controls to reduce energy use by 50% or more (compared to ASHRAE 90.1-2004).

SUMMARY:July 2020 Virtual Chapter Meeting - Laboratory and Fume Exhaust Systems
DESCRIPTION:Understanding laboratory and fume exhaust system fundamentals allow engineering of solutions that will safely meet design requirements\, reduce the cost of operation\, and more effectively control the system pressure. This presentation reviews the fundamentals required to safely exhaust contaminated air from a critical environment with use of pre-engineered fume exhaust systems. We will review multiple plume rise equations\, how the exhaust system plays a role in the bigger lab control environment\, various configuration options of the systems\, and redundancy options. \nSpeaker: Robert is an Application Engineer with Greenheck’s Lab and Fume Exhaust Systems. Robert holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the Milwaukee School of Engineering. Robert has 10 years’ experience in the HVAC industry including work with consulting and equipment manufacturer. He commonly presents on a variety of HVAC subjects including fan fundamentals\, understanding fan sound\, and laboratory/hospital exhaust systems\, Matt is a member of NE Wisconsin ASHRAE and recently presented at the virtual ASHRAE summer conference. \nREGISTER FOR WEBINAR HERE: https://event.webinarjam.com/register/9/6kn2zto

SUMMARY:June 2020 Virtual Chapter Meeting - The New "Normal" of the Built Environment
DESCRIPTION:The pandemic we are living through is an unprecedented event that will alter our world forever. As this situation continues to evolve\, how will building and business owners react? How will this change our workplaces\, and how do we get there from here? \nSam Wright\, Senior Sustainability Consultant for Säzän Environmental Services out of Seattle\, Washington\, will explore those questions. He will identify strategies and concepts that building owners are already implementing and propose a concise framework for hazard mitigation. \nSpeaker\, Sam Wright\, is a Green Building Consultant for Säzän Environmental Services\, where he consults for public and private green building projects from concept through post-occupancy. He has spent his career working directly with owners. \nRegister for the webinar here: https://event.webinarjam.com/register/8/m2n03a8
