SUMMARY:January Chapter Meeting (Lunch)
DESCRIPTION:Please join us on Thursday\, January 24th\, for a lunch meeting and presentation by Cathy Higgins (New Buildings Institute) and Mark Perepelitza (SERA Architects).  The presentation is entitled “A Radiant Solution\,” and addresses case studies and recent research by NBI on energy efficiency of these systems. More details below.  Come learn the latest on these systems and share your experiences with colleagues at our January 24th lunch event.  As you register\, please consider sponsoring a student to attend the meeting.  To help students attend\, we work to subsidize the cost of the meeting to make it affordable. \nRegister Now! \nRadiant systems offer a compelling alternative to standard VAV or RTU forced-air approaches due to the occupant comfort provided and the energy savings.  But radiant remains rare in today’s commercial buildings and even more rare when used for both heating and cooling.  Cathy Higgins\, Research Director for New Buildings Institute (NBI) in Portland led a study of the energy performance of buildings incorporating radiant for both heating and cooling on behalf of CBE at UC Berkeley and the California Energy Commission. She will share the highlights of the findings including some local examples that are part of the case studies.  Mark Perepelitza\, Sustainability Director at SERA Architects\, was involved in two of the projects and has a deep history coordinating mechanical systems\, assessment\, and advocacy for low-energy outcomes. He will bring some of the ‘trench’ perspective from client interactions\, design through recent post-occupancy review of buildings with radiant systems. \nFor questions about the meeting\, feel free to contact Nicky Dunbar\, Programs Chair and President-Elect.
