SUMMARY:February Virtual Chapter Meeting - Very High Efficiency DOAS
DESCRIPTION:Very High Efficiency DOAS: \nA High-Performance HVAC Approach for Better IAQ\, Savings and Resilience\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe next step in the ongoing evolution of HVAC design\, very high efficiency DOAS uses the most efficient HVAC equipment and key design principles to provide cleaner and safer indoor air\, enhance indoor comfort\, and reduce commercial building HVAC energy use by an average of 65% (when compared to a code-minimum system). This presentation will introduce attendees to the key components of this all-electric system design\, outline the energy and non-energy benefits compared to less efficient systems\, and present findings and savings figures from a series of pilots conducted across a variety of Northwest commercial buildings.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeaker: Jordan Pratt\, PE\, CEM; Senior Engineer\, Energy 350\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJordan is passionate about energy efficiency and reducing the significant operating costs and environmental impact of our buildings today. He has experience with high performance mechanical system designs ranging from single-family HVAC to large industrial process optimization and commercial applications. Jordan is a registered professional engineer (mechanical) in Oregon and earned degrees in Energy & Design Engineering (B.S.) and Sustainable Design & Construction (M.S.\, Civil Engineering) from Stanford University.\n\n\n\nView Recording \nDownload Slides

SUMMARY:March Virtual Chapter Meeting - BAS & Cybersecurity
DESCRIPTION:View Recording \nDownload Slides \nPresented by Brian Meyers \nAccording to IBM\, the global average cost of a data breach is $3.9 million and data from Juniper suggests cybercrime cost businesses over $2 trillion total in 2019. So\, what does Cyber Security have to do with a Building Automation Systems? Building Automation Systems provide significant value in connecting and automating a building and its components; however\, anywhere you or your customers are connected can provide risk. There are simple and proactive measures you can take to improve your job or building’s cyber security. \nKey Learnings:\n• Understanding IT requirements that need to be proactively built into BAS specifications.\n• Specifying the right products with cyber security considerations.\n• Best practices for BAS installation that can improve cyber security.\n• Ongoing maintenance required to mitigate cyber security risk.

SUMMARY:April Chapter Meeting - Strategic Energy Management Program
DESCRIPTION:Download Slides \nPresented by Kevin Campbell \nStrategic Energy Management (SEM) is a program designed to help commercial and industrial facilities holistically reduce energy use. SEM is offered by many program administrators throughout the Pacific Northwest including Energy Trust of Oregon\, Bonneville Power Administration and various other electric and natural gas utilities. This presentation will provide a general overview of SEM including how it differs from other utility funded energy efficiency programs. The presentation will highlight on how those working in the HVACR community can best support their commercial and industrial customers who are participating in SEM programs. Examples of previous projects will be shared – whether they be out of the ordinary or common energy savings strategies. \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:May 2022 Meeting - Legionella and Methods of Control - Past Presidents Night
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Phil Roach \nLegionella is a naturally grown bacteria that occurs in warm freshwater with the common sources being in cooling towers and potable water systems. The number of cases in the US of Legionnaires disease continues to rise year after year with about 10\,000 cases of Legionnaires disease being reported to the CDC in 2018. Most recently\, Portland experienced an outbreak where 5 people were hospitalized including 1 who died in 2021. \nIn this presentation\, we’ll cover legionella itself\, other water borne pathogens\, and how a person could contract legionella. In addition\, relevant standards involved with legionella control along with some of the methods being used to control it will be shared. \n  \nRegistration opens at 5:15pm \nHappy Hour Networking 5:15 – 6:30pm \nAnnouncements and Dinner at 6:30pm \nPresentation starts at 7:00pm \n  \nRegister Here: https://events.r20.constantcontact.com/register/eventReg?oeidk=a07ej6ki2fw0c9b09d8&oseq=&c=&ch=
