President’s Corner – February 2017

By February 13, 2017March 21st, 2017President's Corner

I hope everyone is having a great year so far. For all of us living in Oregon, I hope we have seen the last of the cold weather.  After living here for 20 years, we may see one more cold snap before Spring arrives. I hope I’m wrong!

Our Chapter is still on the path to organization. We have many items on our current agenda that are in progress, and slowly we are coming together.  From my experience, this path is a constant effort, and I have recently seen spurts of creativity that make me realize what a dynamic group we have in our organization.

This is an important week for our Chapter. We will be visited by our Society President Tim Wentz. He will be attending the Student and Young Engineers (YEA) breakfast Friday morning at the World Trade Center 8:30 to 10:00 am.  Here is the link for those interested: http://events.constantcontact.com/register/event?llr=meru7qxab&oeidk=a07eds88q6cc5b835de. This is an opportunity to meet Tim and learn what ASHRAE is currently providing for students and YEA and how you personally can make a difference in the future of your careers.

The ASHRAE Winter Conference in Las Vegas was impressive. Every day was filled with events (and was somewhat overwhelming).  I got to see some of the distinguished lecturers (DL) that have visited our Chapter in the past. Overall, it was great to see how vibrant our ASHRAE organization is.  The Conference was very well organized. Thank you ASHRAE!

For those of you who also were fortunate enough to attend the AHR Las Vegas Show held the same week as the ASHRAE Winter Conference, I hope your eyes were open to all the products and systems available for our industry. I was amazed with the elaborate displays, professional staffing, and the number of attendees. Early reports show there were 80,000 people in attendance. I was also impressed with the European and Asian companies represented. It was interesting to see other products that are as innovative as what we have domestically, and was encouraged that we are all moving toward energy efficiency together and across the globe.

In closing, our Chapter is here for you. I hope we are giving you and your company what you need. Let us know how we can serve you better.  As I’ve mentioned before, we encourage your feedback and involvement. Take care, and hopefully I will be seeing you at our events this year.

Sincerely,

Wayne H. Brosman
ASHRAE Oregon Chapter President (2016-17)
